Default Guild Wars 2 Team Proposal

A bit about yourself as required for a Team member.

My name is Brian Kemp; I’m age 20 and live near Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. I am currently going to school to major in computer science, and my main job outside of school is serving in the United States Marine Corps Reserve as a machine gunner for an infantry line company. I’ve been playing games from a young age, starting with NES and N64, before I grew into Starcraft and Starcraft Broodwar, and finally into Warcraft 3. My competitive spirit came alive in the Call of Duty (PC play only) series, which I played until the first Modern Warfare. My MMO experience started with Everquest (Age 12/13), but it only really bloomed in World of Warcraft.

My competiveness in World of Warcraft and Call of Duty lead to Warhammer Online where after playing for a long time solo, and in small guilds, at the beginning of the game I came back in late 2010 and joined the DROW team almost immediately after learning about them. I was impressed by the team’s dedication to the organization's rules, mission, and the so called “Drow mystique” that surrounded the team. I played with the DROW team as much as I could with school and deployments to military schools, and with the current WAR team not interested (burnt out from leading WAR for 4 years) in being the team leader of the Guild Wars 2 team, I figured I might as well get it started myself.

The game you would like to lead.

Guild Wars 2 is the game I would like to build a team for.

    Proposed Team Charter

In my opinion, Guild Wars 2’s greatest attribute will be its world vs. world system. Unlike Warhammer Online, World of Warcraft, Rift, or Eve Online, Guild Wars 2 will be a free to play, easy access, and open world PvP experience. Over a two week long period, three servers will fight for control of four different world PvP maps consisting of objectives. A constant score is kept between the servers, and at the end of the two weeks the servers will be ranked and new enemies will come your way, based on your past server performance. World vs. World will be the main form of PvP character progression, and organized guilds will be required to consistently win each of the 2 week long wars to keep you server in the top bracket.

The team will mostly focus on the WvW areas of the game, with scheduled events for PvE and structured PvP a secondary objective. The main objective of the team is to keep the server we represent in highest bracket of WvW competition by means of coordinating with the other open world PvP guilds on our server, generating sufficient in-game revenue to fund constant siege equipment/defensive upgrades, and having a consistent presence in the WvW lakes with the purpose of widening any lead our server has, or constantly applying pressure to the proper enemy server to bring their points generation down.

    Recruitment and Guild Representation

In the current build of the beta your account can be linked to many guilds at once. You are technically a part of all of them at once, however you can only “represent” one guild at once. With this guild representation system I am proposing a certain structure to the team. The main team will be under the name Drow, and every member under that tag will be committed full time to the Drow name, mission, and team. They will be recruited at first from current Drow members who show interest in the game, and I am proposing a selective public recruitment campaign outside of Drow to help fill the ranks even more if the team is sponsored. Outside recruitment will take place on other game community websites and will consist of a formal forum post, interview, two part in-game recruit phase, and a final vote taken by current team members. Recruitment from other current Drow teams to the Guild Wars 2 main team will require release from the previous Drow team and a formal forum post/leadership meeting to discuss the level of dedication you will bring to Drow’s efforts in Guild Wars 2.

After the main team is set up and settled, a separate guild will be planned and formed for alternate characters, family, friends, and those members of Drow who cannot fulfill the standards of a full team member. Being that Guild Wars 2 is a free to play game, once someone has a high level character there will be no monthly subscription keeping them from jumping back into the game every few months, and the separate guild will allow these members to play alongside with the main team without causing roster issues inside the main team.

Guild Structure and Chain of Command

The guild will be structured like other current Drow teams, with guild ranks consisting of recruit, member, veteran member, officer, and a team leader. The difference between member and veteran member will exists in certain guild permissions and leadership expectations. A veteran member would be expected to provide some level of open world PvP leadership capability, whether it be target calling or showing the initiative to get groups going when no higher leadership is around or is dead on the field. Officers at first will be on a volunteer basis, and will be expected to play a large and active role in leading the guild in open world PvP by maintaining relationships with other open world focused guilds on the server, and leading the team in open world PvP.

Why you believe in the DROW mission and how you think your new team will help us accomplish it.

I believe in the DROW mission because it is so similar to my own personal goals as a competitive PvP player. I want to be well known, feared, and respected in every game I play. Even more so, I want the team I am apart of to be well known, feared and most of all respected in every game I play. I know that the PvP oriented people in this organization have the skill and dedication to be a team with the coordination and character required to be a leading guild on a WvW focused server.

The team will accomplish this in striving for excellence in most of the content inside Guild Wars 2. At this time these areas of focus will be the world vs. world maps, generating large amounts of income from the in-game market, and pursuit of the best gear available. Most importantly this team will live up to Drow standards with its leadership. Arguably the easiest way that a team fails in the accomplishing the Drow mission is not bad game design or poor developer support, but because the team leadership gets tired with the responsibility of leading and becomes relaxed on some of the policies that are designed to keep the team fulfilling the Drow mission. However with the Guild Wars 2 team steps will be taken to ensure that this relaxation does not occur.

The first step is to understand that this team is not being formed under the pretense that it will be a relaxed, casual PvP guild. In fact it will be opposite of a relaxed, causal PvP guild, and will be similar in many ways to a progression raiding guild. For example you will have a main character, you will be evaluated and remediated based on your performance with that character if necessary. Acceptance into guild groups that are progression oriented will require you to be playing your main character. Your main character will comply and conform to certain builds that fulfill the guild’s current WvW strategy. Full members will be responsible for donating personal wealth towards siege equipment and defensive upgrades. Any deviation from these or other guidelines that exist to keep the team in the highest bracket of competition will result in appropriate action taken.

The bottom line is simple. Every two weeks we will fight a different set of servers, and the Drow name will receive a lot of exposure over time. Every time we log in and step into WvW, we are wearing a tag that people from other servers will recognize, other players from WoW, Rift, WAR, Starwars, and every other game that Drow has sponsored. We will be representing an organization that is bigger than ourselves. If we look like an unorganized mess of a guild, the organization will suffer because other skilled players will dismiss us as bad. If we focus, and take the Drow mission to heart we will be feared, we will be well-known, and we will be respected. More importantly, the brotherhood will grow with skilled, like-minded players who are dedicated to the organization and who be part of the Drow teams for years to come.

Thanks for stepping up Morso. It's a big commitment, and I'm sure you would make a fine TL. Btw, thanks for your military service.

Thanks Xennor, please take as much time as you need on the decision. The release date is rumored to be a month or two away, but there is no official date.

Just as a heads up I will be on a government funded, mandatory military vacation to Twentynine Palms, California for two weeks starting on this Saturday, 6/30 and won't be back online until July 15th.
