Hey, so someone gave me a WoW account. There is a 60 Warlock on it. My son started a toon and I beleive I might start one to piddle around with and see if I like it. What is a good toon to start playing to learn the game? I have played on the EQ2 team for a little over a year. Well, I just wanted to introduce myself and say hello :)

Since you're a necro in EQ2, and I KNOW you love it, I'd stick with a warlock or mage Badd. Warlocks have several pets, including a badass chance to get some uber pets that can get loose and knock out people in the vicinity :)

As for learning the game, just start any level 1 character and putz around. You'll see the curve is 20x easier than EQ2, but still as entertaining.

Well, I just wanted to introduce myself and say hello :)Its really not hard to learn how to play the game. Since you have played EQ2 you have the basic concepts down. You need to decide what type of role you are looking for. Soloing, groups, raid, PvE, PvP? Do you want to top the DPS charts? Do you want to be a buffer/healer? Do you like melee fighting? Range fighting? Magic? Since you enjoy your necro you might enjoy a warlock like Sene said. My lock is still under 20 but she is fun to play.

Warlocks in WoW are like EQ1 necros and mages combined. We're a caster DPS class (dots and nukes), but we also have various debuffs that lower target resistance and increase DPS done to said target. Like EQ1 mages, we have alot of specialized pets that are best for certain circumstances...although in a raid setting you will be using your imp most of the time since he gives a group-wide 54 sta buff (with talent). Like EQ1 necros, we also can convert our hp into mana. As such, our class is very stamina heavy...it's not uncommon to see warlocks with as much, or more hp, then warriors ;p We also can summon players from anywhere in the world, and we have wipe recovery via soulstones. You can also summon healthstones, which act as "free" health potions. The downside is you need soul shards for any summon (pet or otherwise) save for the imp. You basically cast a drain spell on a mob and when it dies you get a shard. Sounds easy, but it can become a pain in PVP or raids.

As for soloing, Warlock solo as you lvl is pretty much the same as EQ1 necros...fear kite, load em with dots and nuke as needed. With proper pet micro, you can handle alot of mobs at once if you're smart...especially if they are demons. For instance, you could banish one demon...charm another and have it tank a 3rd, while you fear kite a 4th ;)

Personally I like warlocks and I've played one since early closed beta. They have some glaring issues in the raid game, but they're a pretty solid class in all other regards.

Why have I never seen anyone wearing the Drow Tag ever?

Do you have the display guild name option? Most likely its cause we are always in Naxx 24/7 .

Go to ironforge and find the bank. Just outside is a cart or wagon. we usually hang there unless we are raiding which as previously stated is almost all the time.

I am on Doomhammer server, I am trying to gear up and shit though. Have not ventured far out. I made it to westfall, redridge and lakeshire so far. Anyhow, I'll keep an eye out. My rogue is level 17 now and I finally got a gold, hehe.

One hint.. Sell almost everything you get on the AH. If you are a little lucky you'll have 90 gp by level 35.

I disagree, go mining / enchanting. DE all the greens you get, and auction all the unsmelted ore and stones on the AH, as well as the items you get from disenchanting. You'll make good money that way.

When I made my rogue on Ursin I found myself loitering around the cart outside the bank in IF... But it wasn't the same as Drowcart. :'(

OK, so a little update here. I am now level 22 and have 3 gold :). I have 3 of the 5 pieces of defias leather including the BP. Got pwned by a flying dragon in the middle of BFE (westfall sentinal tower). All in all a refreshing break when I am bored with EQ2.

As you probly know from your eq experience the real #'s dont show up until its raid time. So yea you probly won't see many of us around until 6 server time and then we are off in high end zones.

Ok so I am level 32 now. It is pretty easy to level. I have only grouped twice. It is hard to find a group to instances and all. I have decided to be an engineer/miner and I do first aid and I think that is it. Rogue just appears to be button mashing for the most part. Position the mob, stun backstab that kinda stuff.

The other day I was struggling with one mob and some other rogue my exact level came in and started pulling 2 at a time and just running through em. So pretty sure my gear is shitty, lol.

Pick up a couple of swords and respec to this (http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=wZMhEz0Vzo). You'll kill things much easier. Make sure you get a mainhand or onehand sword with the highest damage range possible. Zealot Blade or the Butcher are probably the best at your level. Daggers are fun and all, but they're much slower and killing and much more temperamental. If you really want the easiest time leveling, Sinister Strike and the Combat tree are your friends.

Thanks Bloo, ima try that tonight when I get home. I think it cost me 5g to respec now. I got like 11g so I will be ok there. I may shoot ya a tell if I have any more questions.

I'm not on all too often anymore, but feel free to hit me up any time I am. I'm typically beyond bored and I love helping people understand the rogue class.
