View Full Version : Headset Mic Issues
Hey all. I just bought the Steelseries 5H V2 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826249016) headset with my new rig and I am having some issues with the mic. I am picking up quite a bit of background noise. I am picking up my fan from across my room.
I know some headsets have what appears to be a mesh or foam covering over the mic. Would that be needed to help reduce the background noise? If so, can you buy them from a store?
Curious if anyone has any recommendations or input. Any and all info would be greatly appreciated.

NO, the foam is to try to reduce noise from wind hitting the mic directly. The only things I can think of is to try to turn down the gain on the MIC (I am pretty sure you have tried this) and the other is to see if this is supposed to be a noise reduction MIC. If it is a noise reduction MIC then it is broken, otherwise it may just be the acoustics of the MIC/room. Can't say I know a lot about these.
*EDIT* I just saw they can be plugged in with/without the USB connector. Is the same both ways?
Just tried it with the USB connector and is pretty much exactly the same. Went through the specs on the part and did not notice noise cancellation or canceling anywhere so that may actually be the problem.
I assumed headsets nowadays all came with that. Guess I was wrong.
In that case, is there any good noise canceling headsets out there that would be recommended? Or is there anything else that might possibly be done?
