Taken from this thread on the SWG board. These words must have hurt the Smed very much :(

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=swggpdiscussion&message.id=633426#M633426

The SWG community has been voting with it's feet since the NGE came about. Either we end up being right about our ability to turn the ship around and make a game that's BETTER than it was before, or we were wrong and we fail. Either way we were losing subs before the NGE and believe it or not, we are losing them at a slower rate than before. I'm not going to pretend we didn't lose a bunch of subs from this. We did. And I don't think the game is where it needs to be yet to aquire new subs. But it's getting there with each and every publish.

At the end of the day there are a lot of people in this community that wonder why we did this? Why did we "deliberately" try and piss people off. Obviously that wasn't our intent. This is a business and we needed to improve the results of the business. Did we make a mistake? Maybe.. but only time is going to tell on that one. One thing is certain. We made a mistake with how we presented it to the community, and for that I'm sorry. I still think it was a needed thing though. It's not as simple as "you should have just fixed the things we were complaining about". That doesn't address the very real fact that what we had was a hardcore game that wasn't going to attract the mass audience that the Star Wars IP brings to the table.

wow... he even comes right out and says this...

"1) Yes we had 20 servers.
2) Yes there were more people playing
3) No, they weren't remotely full.. and they were getting less full by the day.
4) IMO we probably need a server merge at some point.

#3 is the reason we needed to make this change in the first place.

Smed"

Reading this, I'm almost feeling sorry for this guy....almost

They were losing more before and not as many now? Big surprise. people leave in a diminishing returns sort of fashion. The flood always starts out huge and then the numbers drop as there are fewer and fewer that remain. The fact that Smed said the words "server merge" and that they are still losing subs is a clear pointer to the NGE being a total failure. For all that the CU had wrong with it, and for all the subs they were losing, they were not at a point of needing a server merge.

The NGE was a shotgun blast to a game that was already suffering stab wounds.

The sooner they realize that, scrap the game, sell the rights to another developer who can make SWG2 (not associated with SOE at all), life can go on for everyone.

What's NGE? What did it do to the game? I'm reading this epic post, and understand where Smed is coming from..but wanna know where the gamers lie :(

Best way I can describe the NGE, without using swear words, is to say they turned Galaxies from a MMORPG into an MMOFPS :(

hahahaha.

i feel little to no remorse for this company. To say that the NGE was anything other than final nail in the coffin for SWG makes me laugh.

It is good to hear that at least it looks like some people at SOE are learning.

I think we all miss the old days.

From my perspective the NGE was crap and happened at the absolute worst time.

PvP was cooking. Drow was rocking with like 20ish hardcore gamers on every night with a few less hardcore people. The crafting system added more interesting things to do while waiting for the next pvp battle or pve raid. They FINALLY put some high end PvE in, with the addition of Mustafar and that robot. I was so happy with the game. And then they announced the NGE.

This powerhouse of a guild vanished in the next 2 months. Such bullshit.

very true Nive. The game was fianlly recovering from the CU1. Things were going well. SOE destroyed all that with their complete stupidity.

Gunni, I play DOD from time to time...I have access to the DOD source, but seems to have a lot better luck finding large groups on the old DOD.

What happened to SWG is the exact reason why pure business people should NOT run games...every SOE game has turned from a good idea into a giant cluster fuck!

I can't even imagine if BioWare is in fact working on SWG2, or some other Star Wars related MMO...makes me all funny inside!

I have 3 rl friends that talked me in to going back to SWG so i did.

It takes awhile to get use to the game play , i like the old system better, but as you get use to it, its not that bad.

the fun part of the NGE is the PVP in the last 3 weeks I have pvped everyday with groups as small as 2 (groups are usually around 10)and up to 35 . I went Reb because of my dislike of dark and its been fun.

Yesterday we had 13 rebs against 33 imps we lost the first 2 battles then made some plans and won the next 2 and it was fun. Thats right, out numbered more than 2 to 1 and we won. How long will the PVP last , I am not sure and it may get boringbut for now its been fun.

Jedi are not what they where and i think that pisses us all off but they are the best PVE and one on one PVP are still the best.

They are reintroducing a Bounty system that will be fun.

I personally like the old system better but there is is some positives to the NGE as they continue to make the system better.

I am not sure the NGE is all SOE's fault from what i have heard from others everquest2 is a good game and they fix the problems, I think Lucas arts is mostly to blame. just look at the Lucas arts games and the NGE follows there path.

If any decide to come back to SWG look me up and i will be back on COH soon as well.

DROW the best SWG guild there was.

By the way if any one thats not coming back to the game and has some good loots and credits let me know i will activate your acount for the loot and creds

Take care all
