My power blinked last night and it shut my computer and monitor down. When it came back up, my settings for 1440x900 were gone. This happened a few months ago, and I red/l'd my video card drivers, installed and all was good. Well now I can't get it back at all. I redownloaded everything, installed, uninstalled, reinstalled, system restore, uninstall, install. Nothing. It's just not there anymore =/
I have an ATI Radeon X1600 512mb
Vista 32bit

Do you have another video card you can try?
Also, I suggest picking up a good surge protector or small battery backup system so in the case of power surges/brownouts your system doesn't blink.

What options does it give you for your resolution settings?

I can't remember off the top of my head. I'll look as soon as I get home, and let you know.

GRRRRRR
I uninstalled everything. Pulled the stupid card out. Started the computer up. Made sure nothing was still there. Shut it down. Put it back in. Started all over. It STILL wasn't there. Then I had a friend log in remotely and do it all over again. Now he's saying I'm nuts and the 1440x900 option was never there. Well it was >=| that's what I used.

What monitor do you use? I believe 1440x900 is for a 17" widescreen LCD.

No, its a 19" widescreen. And I've always used the 1440x900 since I put in this new video card 2 years ago.

Ok, try this. I am not familiar with Vista but get into your display properties and probably advanced tab. See what monitor it says is installed. It could be that Windows doesn't know which monitor you have installed and therefore doesn't know which resolution settings to allow.

It just says Generic PnP. I tried to Update those drivers, and it said they were correct.

I think Xenn's right, it's not recognizing/finding your monitor properly. I know this is probably pointless to ask, but try unplugging your monitor from your computer and reattaching. I have to do that sometimes with my computer when the power flickers here.

Ok, what you need to do is the following.
Go to the website of the manufacturer of your monitor. Go to their support and/or download section and what you want to download is the monitor drivers (INF files) for your specific monitor. Once you download them, install them.
Then your correct monitor will show up and hopefully then it will allow you to pick the resolution that you want.

or...you could try the other port
mermoine
05-28-2009, 06:33 AM
what other port?
and I finally said screw it, and I ordered a new video card yesterday.
I had an ATI Radeon X1650 Pro 512mb
but I ordered Galaxy GeForce 9500 GT Video Card - 1024MB DDR2, PCI Express 2.0, (2) Dual Link DVI, HDTV, VGA Support
Is that one better than the one I had? How do you tell?

My x1650 pro has 2 plug ins on the back for monitors. I think he meant try the other one and see if it works in that one. Some times one of the ports goes wonky but the other works just fine.

ohhh
well the other one is DVI isn't it?, and I have no idea if I have an adapter for that or not.
Update: I have the x1600 Pro, not x1650
oops

You've upgraded roughly 4 tiers higher in graphics performace, so you'll definitely notice a difference

oh, well I don't know if its that it came with one or not. I would just have no idea what I've done with it if it did. I got this card almost 2.5 years ago.
and Thanks Baddums!

I built the majority of my PC 2 years ago. I know where every spare part is including those little adapters :P
Doesn't matter much now since you have a new card on the way. :P

which one?? and how so?
P.S. I got the new video card on Friday, installed it. It worked great until I tried to update the drivers from the website. Then holy hell broke loose, so I had to boot up in safe mode, uninstall it and start over. So as long as I just use the drivers on the CD, it's dandy fine. I got my 1440x900 resolution back. So I think the old one is just fried*. Now I just have to put in the new 1TB hd I bought :D
