Hello Everyone. I dunno if anyone remembers me, was a Drow member in the FFXI team but that was pulled. Anyway. Their is a new MMORPG named Aion: The Tower of Eternity that sounds very interesting. You can look at it here if you want http://www.aionglobal.com/. I was wondering if any Drow members would be interested in starting up a team in it. It's set to come to the U.S. in Fall of 2009.
Darn. It's a real shame no one is currently showing interest in leading a team for this game. I hope it isn't the fear of having another possible "Age of Conan" incident. The game release is pretty set in stone of being in September of this year. U.S. beta weekend is going on this weekend and I must say its quite the game.
Hope someone takes a look at the game because it's simply amazing. You can check out info at http://www.aiononline.com and of cource the more in-depth fan forums run by Curse at http://www.aionsource.com.

I played the Western version of Aion in it's preview weekend.
I played with two friends for about 2 hours, and that was all it took to realize Aion is SUPER casual. You can probably theoredically play the whole game with your mouse. Auto Attack moves you to the mob if you're out of range, as one example of my disappointment. =/

It seems to be a new Lineage game. That being said, I played it this weekend and think it shows potential. I don't think the PvE will be hardcore raid level difficulty, but the PvP and fortress battles might be competitive.

I have been following Aion for 2 years now, and have been playing the beta. It is sure to be a massive success. The abilities and visual beauty of this game far surpass any other MMO. Take a look at some of the thousands of class intro videos, which show off the trademark abilities of the different classes. Also, in addition to the visual superiority of Aion, there will be a new dynamic of RvR in which one of the 3 factions is computer controlled. They call it PvPvE, and it should be a nice fix to the purely opportunistic encounters begotten from PvP and the stagnation begotten from PvE.

I to was there for the First Us Beta launch. It has alot of nice things about it. Dont know if they will have raid content yet or not. But I will be playing them once it comes out in the fall. I will also be playing the beta on the weekends. Its somethign new and gives me a breake from the other mmo's out there.
Raiding in Aion is my only major complaint. It seems to be all world bosses like that of Everquest and Final Fantasy where tagging the mob first is the way to kill it. Don't quote me on that because I could be wrong but that is currently how it seems. I honestly thought after instance raiding was made popular that world boss only encounters would be much more scarce.
Have to say their "PvPvE" concept is quite nice. Seeing as the third faction is sided based on what has been done by players in the world through-out the environment which means that everyone has input while playing through.
Also the size of capital cities in amazing. They are HUGE. Some may see that as a negative but here is why I think its good. In WoW you have a group of 40 or so people and you may just walk into a city that is small and confined like Stormwind or Orgrimmar and get rolled by the 100 lvl 80's right there. However with larger cities it allows more movement and strategic placement by both offense and defense. Bringing the concept of assaulting a city a sense of realism.
Beta has been great and can't wait for release. Really hope a team would come into the works.

Instance raiding imo is what ruined games, now it is no longer based on skill or size. you just walk right up with your pre set group of people and ring the doorbell.no sense of urgency because you know whats waiting for you, no sense of accomplishment because its not left to the elite players and guilds.

Honestly disagree with you there Trahma, I always thought it was a matter of skill and devolpment that beat the content, not the fact that you were able to get there first or have the boss mob on a timer to get everyone ready.
I think what ruined games was the mentality that everything can and should be beaten. You could instance an entire world or dungeon with it being only a matter of real life time constraints and the ability to keep a raid group together that limits you. That in itself would dwarf most of the mmo populations into achieving its goals. Or maybe have a mob that is unbeatable like the Sleeper incident, which forces developers and gamers to create and defeat other unbeatable monsters or gods. As we advance in technology and communication, we develop more strategy and ability to defeat tougher and tougher opponents.
Scripted encounters are good in the sense that it is a puzzle, it takes time to figure out what type of dmg and how to avoid it is possible, but it leaves you with the unless x is greater then y sense of combat, in which case it is only a matter of rinse wash and repeat to determine if sucess is possible, or you need to farm more of something else in order to counter another component.
The first problem is that the developers, in need to accomodate thier entire player base, they have weakened the encounters considerably, so that you can PUG most encounters after reliable data has been discovered on the web. Meaning information rules, and skill is secondary. Maybe the casual joe guild shouldn't be able to defeat everything in the game due to the lack of preparation or lack of players and skill lvl.
I wasn't always a part of Drow, my most notable experience in gaming challenge is Everquest, I wasnt in an elite guild, and looking back on it, if I was part of Drow then, I would have probably had the same problem that I am finding now. Walking away with 100% mission accomplished all the time. Now as a part of Drow, which I have much respect for, I feel that games have let me down tremendously. If an encounter can't be beat, it's broken, by developers and our standards. We can and do beat everything, but I think that is what causes our boredom and frustration. Ideally, with top notch players and an infinite amount of resources, the very best gear, and nobody having a bad night, some encounters deserve a 50-75% loss ratio, just as a matter of difficulty. With maybe the occasional 95-100% there is no way to beat me "you simple mortal fool".
Maybe even find a way to change it up a little. Even if the 95-100% guy will fall once in a while, he would drop some gear that would make him easier to kill the next time, which in a months time would put im at 100% kill all day every day, and we would be back in the rut. Maybe only make some special mobs spawn for two or three months at a time, that way you don't get bored of them, or randomize it somehow so that its not the constant grind, and some challenge still awaits.
We win, we lose
We lose, we get mad
Just make sure it's not an error and we will overcome.

as we gamers get older and have more real life commitments the idea of instanced dungeons become much more appealing. I don't mind SOME contested content, cause that can keep you sharp. However as a middle aged middle manager I want to be able to get on line and play my 3-4 hours on a weeknight and know I'm doing something. I don't want to get a call at 3 am from some 17 year old telling me a mob popped and to get my ass in game <wink>. I'd rather the challenge come from hard content that isn't just a dps or a gear check but requires some thought and strategy and the 24 people working together. Ultimately, tho, I'd like a game that has a litttle bit of everything so that we keep all comers happy and the game well-populated.

In all honest and please excuse my french but I *Fucking* *Hate* instanced raids. Absolutely Loathe it, infact, I loathe instances all together whether it be group or raid. It ruins the emersion of the game. Whoever posted above me was right when they said theres a sense of excitement and accomplishment when the raid bosses are contested and open. I really wish more open-contested dungeons would be made how EQ had them. Make them big and open to everyone instead of tiny ass instances locked to a certain amount of ppl.
I honestly have no idea how ppl claim instances are famous now. Yes, many games use them now but every game thats come out now that has instances, People bitch about the game having "too many instances".
Please for the love of god go back to fully open dungeons and contested raid mobs. For christ sake its an MMO, make it feel that way and get rid of instances.
