Been playing Darkfall for a couple of days and was wondering what the FPS community thought about gamepads v keyboard style of play. I am not sure what 24 euros translates to in dollars, I'm guessing about $50 USD or so. A bit more then I want to spend for an unkown product, but I am thinking it would be worth it if there is decent feedback from FPS type people. So if you can map your keyboard to the gamepad, personally I think it would help my positioning and movement. I can pretty much do everything combat oriented on a gamepad as far as buttons or so i think, as long as I can switch toolbars via gamepad. My old saitek rumble pad had a bunch of stuff and the new ones even have trigger buttons as well as shoulder buttons. Gonna link this to the Darkfall team, appreciate any feedback.

This is sorta what I am looking at, though will probably look around bestbuys and buy whatever feels right:

the slowdown feature and the look of the ps1000 is winning so far, but I think that the p3200 has a couple more buttons. Both are programable for keystrokes.

If I was gunna get a gamepad I'd prolly get that for FPS. You can setup all your moves for weapon switching movement ect easily all at the top of your fingers for one hand, mouse for looking and shooting. Cake walk.

Yeh I have thought about the g13 or maybe the nostromo, but that would still be keyboard functions basically. I was talking more about playing the entire game via gamepad controller like you would a console system.

The Xbox 360 Controller for Windows is a really solid gamepad that is supported natively by quite a few games. If you don't feel like paying for a driver disk, you can also just buy a normal wired 360 controller and just plug it in. Windows Update has all the drivers you need.

Before I actually got around to buying a new controller, I found something that would allow me to map buttons to my mouse. I am a little concerned about the legal issues since the wikipedia says that it runs with some anti hack programs, but not with others. Would be nice not to have to go buy a new controller, and just see if the game is playable.

I downloaded it and tried it a little bit before reading the part with the wiki. I'll have epic check with the game operators to make sure it's ok. As far as performance, I guess the big issue between WASD and gamepads, is the mouse's ability to move around and look/change direction much much faster, though the controls aren't as user friendly. Well I may play around with it a bit sparring, see if its practical, if not there is always the g13 or nostromo.

Z boards are ok, I find them too tight to keys on some games to be useful.

The keybinding to mice, what kind of mouse do you use? If it's logitech, their app allows you to map keys to your mouse.

Gamepads, just not crazy about them for pc games. Feels too much like trying to reinvent something. I used the Nostromo in the past. Very useful. Although I would highly recommend the G13. If anyone has my trust on programmability and functionality - logitech does.

Same here, in Logitech I trust for my gaming peripheral.

Bought the nostromo, best buy didnt have the g13. Its working out pretty good. Using the WASD keys on the nostromo with some quick key shortcuts at easy reach for switching weapons and such.

I'm sure at some point I'll wind up checking out the g13. But, so far I am pretty happy with the nostromo.

Nostromo is the best WASD/Macro machine ever invented IMO.
