There is something VERY fun about a phone that I can turn into a mobile wireless access point/router. I had multiple laptops 'tethering' wirelessly to my phone last night. Not too bad when at 3g speeds, I've been getting ~1.1 megabit/sec.

Other fun stuff I've been able to get working on this phone:

1) OpenVPN -- Access all my routers/servers at work securely
2) VNCViewer -- For the servers through the VPN Tunnel!
3) GMote -- www.gmote.org. Media Player remote control + Mouse control -- GREAT to use with my MythTV box!
4) Ogame -- Can use the built-in Webkit browser or Opera Mini 4.2
5) Full MP4 Movies -- I can over 30 of them on an 8gb SDHC Card. Ripping Netflix has never been so fun
6) Online Streaming -- If I don't have it on the phone already, it has a youtube viewer, and the Android Market has several audio streaming apps for Internet Radio stations!
7) Email -- Push Email on your Gmail account. Good IMAP support for other accounts. I don't use POP3, but it does that, too.

This is an excellent phone with excellent potential, and now that everyone who would use it can get root, the options are nearly limitless. I'm having too much fun on this phone.

Oh! And the next release of the software for it will support A2DP and AVRCP bluetooth profiles (Google android cupcake for more info on the coming updates!)

Questions and comments are welcome. If you are looking to get a new phone soon, I can honestly say this is one I would recommend to any power user.

orly?

Can you make your phone a mobile wireless access point?
Can you make your phone VPN into your office network?
Can you route previously said wireless traffic over the VPN?
Can you use your phone as a remote control for your computer?

hehe. Once rooted, Android becomes an insane beast of an OS that can do so many things I've wanted a phone to be able to do for years. The cupcake changes will make this even better!

yes to all of the above.. at least with my hacked iphone.

But yeah HTC Dream is nice. A very good friend of mine works for HTC and was showing me the prototype a few months back.

Yes the G1 (HTC Dream) is a very nice phone. The touch screen is more reliable than the iPhones and you are able to replace the battery! More and more will come out for the G1. I love the iPhones development, it has tons of things out for it. However G1 has more potential. I currently own a iPhone G3 and a G1 (HTC Dream). I like the looks of the iPhone better but G1 is more reliable it seems. The keypad is what steels it away from the iPhone right now.
