pray it doesn't find its way to EQ2. If you start hearing rumors that EQ2 is going to console...its too late. :|
the biggest problem is that none of us really know what prompted the decision to make all the changes. all we have to go on is what we were told.
in the interview i read (i think it was with joel smedley, or whatever his name is) that they had hired an outside firm to look at the game and tell them what was wrong. in their opinion, the root of the problem was the complexity of the game. the 32 professions (34 with politician and pilot) wes too many, and then add in that you could pick and choose your skills from any combination of the professions added even more confusion and problems. they cut the profession count to 9, plus pilot, and gave everyone the politician skills. not only are there only 9 professions, now anyone within a given profession is identical to anyone else. there is zero diversity.
the problem is, as far as i can see, 75% (pulled this number out of my ass) of the people who play(ed) and now cancelled, chose this game for that same complexity and diversity that they deemed to be the reason that people did not like it. go figure.
add in the fact that the crafting system initially favored veterans with a backstock of resources, or ones with the deep pockets to buy their way into a profession, and you have another gripe of players (in my opinion, anyone who thought this was a problem was too lazy to put any devotion and effort into making themselves better, or to get better resources to craft with). who did they think was right? you guessed it, the ones who wanted the quick payoff with no effort. go figure.
they completely removed any enhancers (krayt tissues, power cubes, power cells, and many more) that made weapons better, and even removed the need for resource quality from many weapon parts, so any junk resoruces will make the same quality weapons. they are so cookie cutter now, that they could have npc vendors selling these, and totally eliminate the need for player crafters (i think my jedi powers just caused me to see a vision of the future).
another thing is that they removed or rendered useless a lot of items that had been put into the game only a short time ago. most of these changes had a large ripple through the economy of the game, and the people who made the economy (the players) have packed up shop and headed out.
all in all, they banked on a "star warsy" theme to make peolpe flock to the game. what they are finding is that it takes more than a lightsaber in everyone's hand to make them feel warm and fuzzy. the game started out with the ability to let players outfit themselves however they wanted within their financial means, and changed it so that everyone is the same. smacks of communism if you ask me. but you didnt hear that from me, cause i aint one to gossip.

You get a second from the Peanut Gallery :D
Problem is, many of the exact same things that people are bringing up now were discovered in the week and a half test before this crapsterpiece launched ... and totally ignored. I love how they listen to the player base :( The stupid "random" loot that now includes many of the organics needed to create crafted items of all sorts spells the end to easily obtainable crafted goods. Since they want to make it difficult for people to even make basic foods and armor now, I see NPC vendors in the not too distant future handing out this stuff for a wad of cash. Money sink and no fuss with that whole "player crafted" garbage any more. What a crock of <self deleted> :banghead:
