Im building a PC for a customer and have worked with the mobo vendor with not to much success.

I have the xfx 780i using the on boad raid for a stripped set

when i load xp32 bit it works fine, when i load xp 64bit it crawls at such a slow speed it ran all night formatting the drive and only got to 1%

I got the updated bios and raid drivers with no joy

I have pulled ram, swapped it with known good.

only OCing im doing is on the video card that is OCed from the factory

it will load just fine when Im loading XP 64 bit on a single drive with no raid.

Anyone have any ideas that will let me keep the raid and xp 64bit?

The raid drivers have to be preloaded during the Windows install. I would suspect the drivers that are loaded are incompatible with 64-bit Windows XP. I would call the manufacturer, and check to make sure you have the correct raid drivers that are being installed during the windows install.

Also check the bios settings to make sure the raid devices are not setup with a conflict.

On a side note-why Raid 0? It is highly overrated as to what kind of performance you see as a lone user. It's great on a file server, but its slower to write since the data has to be striped, and read times - although improved, are not even noticeable to a user.

It's really just another cog where a simple fault on the array can crap out their whole data. I would suggest - if you have 2 disk arrays, is you create a small partition on the primary drive for the Windows Install.

Have their program files run off the second disk, map it so their My Documents run and store under the remaining drive space on the primary.

This way, you get the benefit of having two independent drives, which makes defragging easier to manage. Plus, if you have to reformat windows, your other data should be secure.

Yea i got the latest drivers from the manufacture tech support but still slow as hell...

I decided not to use RAID at all and have OS on one and Files on the others

Thx for the advice
