Soundblaster has a new Beta driver on their support site that claims to have fixed the X-Fi Windows Vista with more than 4GB ram noise crackling issue.
http://support.creative.com/Products/Products.aspx?catid=209&catName=X-Fi is the site to pick your card
You will need to get the Release date: 2 Jun 08 Beta sound driver if you are willing to use a beta driver.
In their notes it says:
Resolves issue with distortion and noise occuring in systems with 4 GB of RAM or greater.
I am using them and so far so good on my sound without noise, hopefully they have finally fixed this issue.
