Hey all I just was looking at stuff over on IGN and was kind of surprised to see that the site hosts cheats for online games. Why would Funcom partner with a site that did that ? Are they really so big as to be absolutely neccessary for a successful launch ?
I would of thought that all game developers would do thier best to shun sites like that in order to discourage cheating in thier games. So anyone know ?

Umm what game are you talking about? As far as I know IGN is a relatively upstanding network of sites and does not host anything illegal.

Those cheats are for single player pc games; it's nothing new. Most single player games have some type of code system to give you unlimited health or ammo ect. It's not the same as MMO 3rd party hacks which I'm guessing is what you are thinking of. I don't like IGN or fileplanet that's why I won't subscibe to it just to play the beta. FC is just going with fileplanet because it's easier for them and it wouldn't suprise me if they are getting a kickback out of it too.

I just went to IGN clicked cheats then chose the W page and sure enough world of warcraft cheats are listed. I did not click the link to see where it went but many online games are listed.
*edit. cancel :) I just followed the link and it shows you all the /commands in the game not cheats at all. Must be like leatherneck says. I just saw the online games listed and figured ...

While it may be listed as cheats, the MMO section often leads to a simple general tips page. Laziness on the part of the webmaster, I suppose.

Interesting that they call them cheats though. I think that is catering to a certain crowd.

Yeah it's kind of a word association thing. When I see "cheat" i think console game or singleplayer pc game. That term has been around forever since the nintendo days. When I see "hack" I think 3rd party MMO bots ect. IGN has always publically denounced gold selling and 3rd party software, however they do support using betas and demos to run up their subscriptions which is what turns me off with fileplanet/IGN.

EA is the devil of gaming. I used to really enjoy their sports games when they had competition, since they bought out almost all of the player rights they are the only game in town for most sports games. I still play NHL for EA but only because I'm a huge hockey fan and never enjoyed 2K sports. I just can't stand the fact that EA attempts to buy all studios that make great games and then claim it was EA all along.
