Filler Content

1-shoting new content and scooping up ilvl 245 loot is fun, right?  Argent Colosseum -  or Naxx 3.0?  Show up w/your buddies, walk out with loot.   One new boss a week, each falls over and spills loot and badges like the boss before it.  We’re already pugging the zone.

Here’s to hoping the hardmodes give us something to chew on and Icecrown lives up to the standards put forth by climactic raid zones of the past.

If the Colosseum wasn’t laughable in and of itself, they’re recycling and bastardizing more classic content.  Onyxia is on deck, complete with a refurbished Vis’kag the Bloodletter, Deathbringer, and Quel’serrar.  I’m as sentimental as the next guy, but the recycled content in this expansion has grown tiresome.

One nice thing about the casual state of the game is that it takes little to no time to get toons “raid ready”.  My rogue has been 80 for exactly 2 weeks and it’s more or less ready for hardmode Ulduar, minus a couple pieces of gear which I expect to have during this week’s raid lockout.  All achieved by running 5-man dungeons, pug raid content, 10-mans, and daily quests.  Huzzah…

I don't mind having refurbished content - doing C'Thun or the Twin Emperors at level 80 could be fun.

I DO mind if it's not done in parallel with new content. I'd rather have new challenging content than a lot of old content.

Either that OR if they make the old content ridiculously difficult (like if they make it a caverns of time sort of thing, but with increased difficulty).

Anyways - I figured I put in my 2 cents.

man that kinda blows. Honestly, i didn't mind that they refurbished Naxx. It wasn't out for long before BC released... and a lot of ppl didn't get to see it all. (i know Drow did, but i was in Tier Zero back in those days and iirc, we only did like 1.5-2 wings worth of bosses... and we weren't the best but we wre no casuals) So it was kind of cool to see.

But onyxia? rly? X-pac after x-pac, loot is really the same shit with bigger numbers... But new looks, new experiences, new story lines... this made chasing bigger numbers fun at the same time.

i almost hit my 4 year mark on on my WoW subscription, and cancelled just one month short of hitting the mark. 3.2 looked like a snore-fest of a patch, an entire tier of raiding centered around a single circular room just seemed lazy, and the lack of armor design backed that further. Still, just cause I was getting burnt out doesn't mean i couldn't have been fun for others--and it sucks to see rollins post a review like this. (even if it does reaffirm my own personal actions) Seeing how much of the next xpac continues the trend really makes me start to wonder how many long-time vets they are expecting to retain. Of their 10 million or so subscribers, i'd put money on less then 30-40% of them playing pre-BC. I think blizz realize this, and is probably saving millions of dollers in human resources and allocating it on their other current projects in development instead.

You will hear ppl crooning 'the death of WoW is nigh', more often in the near future, especially with some solid compitition finally coming down the pipe (Aion, Star Trek, Star Wars, even some from blizz itself!) but they couldn't be more wrong. millions of subscribers will play this solid and well polished MMO for years into the future, i just think for some of us our time has come.

(sorry for the lengthy banter, but it is the 'blog' forums!)
